I am obliged to you for your reply to my latter of the 27th. instant complaining of the anomalies and absurdities of the Censorship in this Colony.
The explanation with which you have favoured
un mains it clear that the Press of the Colony is deliberately placed under greater disabilities than the Press of Japan, the Straits Ettlements, and the capital of the Empire itself,
not
that even the ples of "peculiar local conditions" can
be raised in defence of this. The only means, apparently,
of stouring any improvement is by writing an article
describing the situation to the London Press and by inducing
a friend or confrere the has a moat in the House of Commons
to address a question, or a serion of questions, on the subje ot
to the Secretary of stata for the Colonies. This course I
have meditated taking for some time. If it does nothing elas it should at least serve to add to the gaiety of nations
12
time of glaca.
·
Yours faithfully,
(ED.) H. A. Cartwright.
